Delta Sigma Pi Chapters Serve Their Communities

Timothy Maleck, a financial analyst based in New York City, holds a master of science in accounting from SUNY at Buffalo, where he played rugby and was recognized for his academic achievements. While at SUNY at Buffalo, Timothy (Tim) Maleck, was part of Delta Sigma Pi, a coed business fraternity.

Since 1907, Delta Sigma Pi has helped prepare business students for successful careers after college. Over 260,000 students nationwide have pursued excellence through the organization’s opportunities for professional training, leadership education, community service, and social activity.

Each of Delta Sigma Pi’s collegiate and alumni chapters is encouraged to pursue at least six service projects per year. To help chapters facilitate service initiatives, the national office provides planning resources and ideas for two specific endeavors: the Ronald McDonald House and Make a Difference Day. Chapters can help families affected by serious illness by earning money, collecting soda can tabs, cooking meals for families, or doing yard work at local Ronald McDonald Houses.

Likewise, chapters can join Make a Difference Day on the fourth Saturday of October. Make a Difference Day, sponsored by USA Weekend magazine and the Points of Life Foundation, allows organizations across the country to qualify for national recognition and grants. Delta Sigma Pi chapters are encouraged to coordinate service projects around the Make a Difference Day event.

Fundraising Tips from Cycle for Survival

A CPA registered in New York CIty, Timothy Maleck has served as a financial analyst at a Manhattan-based asset management firm since 2015. Outside of his professional responsibilities, Tim Maleck supports charitable events that fund cancer research, among them Relay for Life and Cycle for Survival.

To advance its mission of funding rare cancer research, Cycle for Survival operates high-energy indoor cycling events throughout the country. The organization offers fundraising support for participating teams and individuals, including tips on how to meet fundraising goals.

Cycle for Survival offers a customizable email template that encourages participants to leverage social media to reach a wide range of donors. Sharing a personal story makes donation requests more compelling, as does requesting a specific amount from supporters who can give bigger gifts. In addition, it is important to follow up on requests and send thank you notes to people who make a donation.

Cycle for Survival supporters can be confident that 100% of donations fund rare cancer research conducted at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Since its founding in 2007, Cycle for Survival has raised $180 million for rare cancer research.
